Comer 1800 or Ikan Multi-K?

I'm trying to choose between the Comer 1800 or the Ikan Multi-K for an on-camera light. One consideration is that the Ikan gives more options of different color temperatures for the light. The Comer does 4500 and 3200 but the Ikan can go 2800-6500. That said, I'm not sure I need that range. I'm thinking long term here and maybe I would need the range the Ikan gives.

Any thought on this matter would be appreciated!

Without a doubt the Comer has better output and build quality. I have seen many, many posts with people very happy with the Comer product and I have personally reviewed it and found it to be a very capable device.

I have also taken a very close look at the Ikan device and don't think it's too bad for build quality but didn't really get very excited by the light output or colour tuning options. I think it's more of a novelty that a needed tool for production.

Some people question the Comer 4500K colour methodology but if you are ok with that compromise then it might be the light for you as I have yet to see any other sensible on camera offering that can match its power.

Best bet would be to determine your light output requirements, colour variation tolerance and shooting style and go from there.

Just another note (and don't everybody jump on me here) in my opinion I doubt that any of the Ikan colour temps are actually what the switch says they are anyways.

Best of luck.

I'm going to be using this light mainly for getting subjects outdoors at night. I do doc work. That being the case, you think the Comer is still the right call? I dont quite know how to go about researching this myself since I dont fully understand the technical specs. I'm willing to defer instead to the judgement of others.

Will this be your only light source? If so I would go with the Comer, you can always dim it or add diffusion if its too bright, as well it lends itself quite handily to being stand mounted so you can avoid that "deer in the headlights" look. I think they are available at the LA Colourshop from a guy named Taky.
