Hey guys,

I've been messing around with combustion but really need to nail down the basics so I can stop painting myself into corners and such.

Anyone have a recomendation for traing books or DVD that they've used and found to be great?

Or any one read either of these?

Autodesk Combustion 4 Fundamentals Courseware
or
The Focal Easy Guide to Combustion 4

they're the only books I could find.

I've got Autodesk Combustion 4 Fundamentals Courseware and it's pretty decent. Not great, but pretty good. Unfortunately, Combustion doesn't have the depth of training materials that are available for AE.

Thanks Barry.

Is that book straight forward and accuarte?

Is it a handy reference or one you need to read cover to cover.

The Focal Easy Guide to Combustion 4 is great, a must! they have one for Final Cut pro as well as other popular apps. Lots of color picts, to the point reference book. Of course it's only good if you are learning the software but have compositing experience with something else. If you are learning compositing, then it might not be the book you need for that. But if you need a quick ref. book on how to do something in combustion, it's the best. A must have if you have combustion. If you use final cut, get it as well. I wish more books were as well made...Okay...I think I have to stop myself...:2vrolijk_08:

Well, few to none are the instructional manuals I can read cover to cover :). I'm more of a -- need to figure this feature out, so I can render this shot for tomorrow--kind of guy. But so far, so good with this book. When I've needed to figure something out, it helped lead me along successfully and I think it's more comprehensive than the Easy Guide. The focus is on the basic functions, and they're covered clearly. I'd love to see another Combustion book with real world examples of some more advanced uses, but this one gets you off the ground.

I haven't upgraded yet to v4 but the v3 Focal "Easy Guide to combustion 3" and the "combustion ground rules" books are both good. Their information and tutorials are relevant to v4. You might be able to find them marked way down because they are now a rev back.

Thanks guys. I think I'll order the focal guide. I appreciate the feedback and the links.

You guys are great.

There is a set of 8 DVDs that have everything you need to start off with but I can't remember the name of the series.
