Combining Squeeze mode and Anamorphic Adapter?

Hey Guys
just got my DVX100a, and was wondering if anyone has played with using the anamorphic adapter and squeeze mode together to achieve an ultra widescreen? I know you would have to do some work in post, some cropping and desquezzing. Anybody? Do you think this would pixalate alot? I just ned to get the anamorphic adapter and play with it i guess.

Thanks
Matt

I *tried* it (by mistake). It looks okay - you'll get app. 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I don't have a clip, but I could play it in Vegas. I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to render it as QT or something...

hen you said you tried it, did not not like it? or did you just happen to to do it by accident? Usuaully the way they get 2.35:1 is shoot super 35 with an anamorphic adapter but i might be wrong.

In film 2.35 is achieved by either shooting Super35 and cropping, or by using an anamorphic lens, but not both.

Squeeze+anamorphic will give you 2.35 that won't play on any television. You'd have to unsqueeze it to 16:9, and then letterbox it, in order to get 2.35 that would play on television. And, if you shot squeeze+letterbox, you'd get 2.35 that would play on television... so why bother going through a squeeze/unsqueeze process just to get back to where you'd be if you'd started with letterbox?

If you want to only make a web video from it, then yes squeeze+anamorphic would be appropriate for that. If you want it for television, squeeze+anamorphic is a bad idea. It's a better idea to use letterbox+anamorphic for that.

It would look ridiculously squeezed. You *cannot* display it on any video system, television, projector, DVD, or anything else on earth. It can't be done, and nobody should ever try.

(okay, for those who are still with me... if you were to put an anamorphic lens on the video projector, then yes you could do it).

riggieri get barry's book everything is there man ,

btw barry i got your book from Birns & Sawyer , but missing the dvd:cry:

i paid 70$ and i got the book only

Oh i got the book and its great.
I was just thinking about exerimenting. If i did some post work with it, and outputed to a 16x9 DVD letterboxed to 2.35, then it wouldn't be squezed at all. They do that for DVD's all the time. How do you think you can watch a movie like say Saving Private Ryan, which is 2.35 on a normal 4:3 tv.
I understand that i would loose some vertical resolution, but i am kinda looking for that ultra widescreen look for a project i am working on. It might actually be better to use the anamorphic adapter and letterbox it, but do it in post. I am thinking that it might now work though because there is not enough resolution in the 2.35 viewable area oin the DVX to look good. This definatly is not 35mm.

God Damn it why does the anamorphic adapterhave to be so expensive.

Thanks
Matt

Well, that makes little sense. Every package that gets sent to Birns & Sawyer and the other dealers is a sealed bag that includes the book and an Amaray-case-packaged DVD. If you didn't get both elements, definitely let them know. But I don't see how that could have happened accidentally; they're packaged specifically and the Amaray DVD case isn't something you'd likely overlook -- it's a full-size, full-color printed Amaray DVD case after all. It's actually longer than the book is.

Well, I know in my case, the DVD didn't come in a standard Amaray case, but more like a small pouch or envelop "baggie" I guess you could call it. Of course, it came from B&H; maybe they replaced the Amaray with the paper-pouch? So Riggieri's book may not have come with an Amaray, but a small pouch like mine (it is slipped INSIDE of the book, which may have fell down when they were packaging everying).
