Combining 29.97 video with 24PA Footage

I need some help.

I'm looking for a concise answer to this question. I did search but I couldn't find a strait answer to my question.

I am editing a live performance all my DVX's were set to 24PA.

There was a shooter who brought a Sony for B roll and that shot 29.97 interlaced footage.

What's the best way to combine the footage for the smoothest most non interlaced look.

I'm using FCP - 23.98 timeline.

I've tried using compressor to convert the footage to 23.98 and it does work but it slows it down a but and on some shot's that won't work. Is there a way to do that without it going to slo mo?

Methods/plug in's whatever it takes... thanks

You have two options:

Edit at 29,97. That means you have to recapture all footage from the DVX and leave the pulldown intact. Then it will easily combine with the Sony footage.

Edit at 23.98 and convert all of the 60i footage to 24p. This would require you to use a plugin such as Nattress' standards converter and would take a while.

So ultimately it depends how far along you are in your edit and the ratio of 24p to 60i footage you have. Not to mention what your final deliverable is.

Thanks Noah.

I'll download a demo and see if that will work.

Has anyone heard if the new FCP has conversion tools for mixing formats???
I've heard rumours and don't wan't to buy the Nattress converter if the new FCP will do the trick.

I have time to wait for the new software to come out.
