Combine Alzo 2000 cool lite with Photo Flood?? how to

... I just bought an ALZO 2000 ... very nice, very "white".

Hello....
Forced to combined the AZLO light (hmi) on one side with two 500w Photo Flood lights on the other side of a Quilt pinned to a wall that is 11 foot wide and 9 foot high. (my goal is to buy another ALZO light when save enough pennies again, in the meantime I need to find solution)

I am new to lighting (the obvious as you'll see, apologies).

Shooting flat art on a wall; TEST SLIDES came back with one side nice and white (alzo side) and the other side came back somewhat "warm" in tone... ug.

What are my OPTIONS in balancing the light as they are the only lights I have to work with at this time?

I'm new to lights so be easy on me <chuckle>. Glad to hear any and all suggestions as I have a photo shoot coming up soon and need to solve this if at all possible. (yeah, cheap is better than expensive solution but all ideas needed)...

THANKS!!

Whoa! Where did you find that Alzo 2000? It's definitely a metal halide light, but I don't think it's an HMI. They seem to use the terms interchangeably on the web site. Even so, $520 for a metal halide with a CRI of 94 and 440 total watts, sounds really interesting.

Back to your problem--just slap some CTB gels on your photofloods to raise their color temp from 3200K to near the 5200K of that ALZO or slap a CTO on your ALZO to drop it's color temp. You can get those gels from any thatrical lighting store or online. Rosco, Lee, and GAM are a few companies that make these. You'll want a "full CTB" or "Full CTO" gel.

Tell me about this light though--how is the construction, is the ballast quiet, how much light does the thing put out? Kiva--be a sport and pull one of those bulbs and post the brand and model number.

Matt--stay the course man, steady as she goes.

the alzo...

the alzo...

thanks so much for the suggestions ...

I've just tried to place blue gels on the photo floods ... it sure cured the warming problem for those two lights but to my surprize I now have the other side looking BLUE !!! That's the side the Alzo is on and it used to be incredibly white. hmmm.

btw, to answer you're questions ... the Alzo is incredible. Runs very quiet, NOT hot and can run for hours. A bulb lasts for about 7,000 hours.

More technical info on the web site link you had in your message but personal experience only has me waiting to earn a little more money to buy a second one. I am shooting flat art and need balanced corner to corner light on a Big Scale. I got a softbox and it's really really nice .... not sure how to light the other side ... currently using the two 500w photofloods ... I put the gels on as suggested and it cured the warmness but now the alzo side is looking blue, lol ...

I put in new film for this last test so maybe that was it ... I'll shoot another test and report back ... thanks... still open to more feedback ... I've got an excellent start. Thanks.

Well, if the metal halide lamp is still a bit blue, you can go through the same drill. Maybe gel the photofloods with some 1/8 CTB--add a layer or two until the lights match in color temperature. Or you could add a layer or two of 1/8 CTO to the metal halide lamp.
