Combine After Effects and Premiere Pro

My myself and my co-worker always complain about this. It feels like these applications are artificially separated when they should be one application.

How difficult would it be to add faster playback, razor blade tool, drop in transitions and multiple clips per track to After Effects so that we could do some editing and forget Premiere altogehter? Or in reverse add keyframing below each track in Premiere, a canvas to the Program window for dragging things around, etc.

Now that Adobe sells this as Cretive Cloud with everything bundled together, they don't need separate applications.

Dynamic link has never worked for me. So that's not an option.

Even with the most powerful computers available now or the near future...the nature of compositing makes it unlikely one will ever see a compositing app that can run realtime. I never use DL and tend to make DIs (Digital Intermediates) for use in Premiere from AE.

Agreed, the nature of compositing makes it unlikely we'll ever see a compositing app that can run fast enough to also be a good editing tool. Stack up five or ten layers of color-correction, blures, noise reduction, etc in After Effects and it runs too slow to be an editing application, even on a high-end box.

That being said, Adobe could have done a better job integrating the two so that it doesn't feel so much like entirely different tools when working. And Dynamic Link has always been a cruel joke... giving us a taste of what could be, but never having the speed to be anything useful.

Try Speed Grade with Premiere Pro and you can get some idea of what Adobe CAN do to better integrate their programs.
