colours of exported .MOV different than FCP's canvas/viewer

Hey I'm running into a bit of an issue here and I don't know what is causing it.

Since I installed my FCS onto my new iMac the quicktime files FCP produces look different in colouring than what I see in FCP. The exported footage looks as though it is less saturated, more blue or less yellow, and brighter. Sometimes when I feel that I need to colour correct low colour temp on a clip in FCP is all the sudden no longer an issue once the footage is exported.

Comparing the FCP footage with my raw tape (DVX) I think it is FCP that's processing the colours inaccurately. The exported footage is more correct. The bottom line though is that they are different. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

Thanks

Seems more likely your monitor is the problem, not the FCP. You mentioned a new iMac, so I wonder if you have accurately tuned your computer monitor? On Windows ( I use both) there are very accurate tweaking of the monitor in the Control Panel. On Apple there is a calibrate function in the System Prefs > Displays. I would use that first.

Do you have the ability to shoot a color chart and do a comparison? what are you comparing your DVX footage on? Just an eyeball of the LCD vs. the computer screen? that may not tell the tale.

Yeah thanks. I went to Sys Prefs and changed my colour profile to Apple RGB. It was iMac RGB before. And it looks better now, though I still notice that they are different. I'll try to get my hands on a colour profile and see what I can do.

In Quicktime, go to your preferences and make sure "enable FCP color computability" is checked. Problem solved??

I'm using QT10 and I don't see a preferences option.

On my old Mac QT7 I have preferences, but I don't see anything like "enable FCP colour computability"
