Colour correction tutorials?

Can anyone direct me to some good, basic guides on colour correction? I've seen all sorts of examples of how it can do wonders to a picture, but I don't know where to start. As of yet I've just been messing with colour levels and brightness/contrast.

As of yet the search hasn't yielded anything at my rather basic level of knowledge.

If you're working in After Effects, I love Stu Maschwitz's book, DV Rebel Guide. The latter part of the book is all about color correction.

I've been doing some of my attempted colour correcting in AE, but I'm starting to think it would be easier to just do it in premiere pro 2, while reserving AE for my animations and keying... I'll look into that book though. Thanks.
