colortran dichroic filter

I'm currently deciding whether to buy a colortran dichroic filter (bluish glass and he said its used to change a light to daylight around 5500K or something). However, just looking to get some info before I make the purchase. First, how rare are these? Should I pay more than $30~ for it? Is it that useful? Apparently it reduces the wattage by half so for my 650w mini pro's they would be reduced to around 325w, and only allow the rays through that are closest to daylight so it would be useful.

Any feedback would be great, thanks!

It would be good to have if you need to supplement for daylight use. An inexpensive gel will do the same thing though if you are on a budget.

A dichro filter isn't something I'd go out of my way to buy. One came with my 1k Ianebeam, it does the same thing as CTB only it's way more expensive, it can break, and it really doesn't do as good of a job since the color actually shifts as you move away from the center of the beam.

I bought 2 of these for $40 bucks (49 shipped) a few weeks ago, but haven't really had a chance to film results/test them apart from briefly upon arrival.

I am busy the rest of the week, but could try and shoot some tests this weekend/early next week if you have time to wait and decide.
