Colors Changing During Compression

Hey everybody,

I've been doing a lot of compression via Apple Compressor, and I've noticed that it tends to alter my color correction. I exported two clips, at two different times, and I have seen that the colors are a little different on each of the clips. I will outline below:

Export 1: MPEG 4, High Variable Bit Rate, 1280x720. Frame controls were on, and set to all of the best settings to stretch from DVCPRO HD 720p24 (960x720) to 720p square pixels output for web. Exporting seemed to tint everything slightly green

Export 2: DVCPRO HD 720p24, default settings. Exporting seemed to tint everything slightly yellow.

What's happening here and how can I fix it/avoid it.

Thanks,

Its just something thats been happening a lot. It doesn't just happen in Quicktime though. It also happens on the clips uploaded to Vimeo, or anywhere for that matter. I was just something I'm hoping to be able to fix.

Sometimes just having the video in a different container makes a big difference in how video sharing site handle the footage. Make sure you export h.264 into a .mp4 container. I would never use a .mov container to deliver any file due to the discrepancies between different apple branded media players.

See this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=154352 for compression recommendations for video sharing sites.

Even when I color manage my footage in After effects with an export into Quicktime, there is always a very slight green tint added to all of our footage, but at least the gamma is correct. This is unfortunate since the problem lies within Quicktime, not After Effects.
