Sorry i have no idea that what this shoule be called.
i see many movie/commericals that has such effects, that colored one object and remains others black and white.
is there a guide or solution to do in Vegas?

Thanks in advance

You do it with the secondary color corrector. There’s a preset called “desaturate all but reds”; I guess red is the most popular color to do it with. But you can use the little eyedropper button below the color wheel to select and isolate whatever color you want.

I know exactly the look you are going for. There are a couple of ways to do it, an tough I use AE more than Vegas, they should still work.

If Vegas allows the use of a masking tool (the pen tool in AE) you would simly have twho layers, the black and white one underneath the colored one, and use the mask tool to "cut out" only the colored part you want from the color layer, revealing the black and white layer beneath.

Or, if the object you ware wanting to stay in color is a color not seen in the rest of the footage (you have a bright blue tee shirt and NOTHING else in the scene is that color blue, you can drop the color values of everything in the scene except the tee shirt color, and evertying but the tee shirt will be black and white.

If you have something that is similar in color to other objects in the scene, you can't exactly do the kind of extraction I just wrote of. But what you CAN do in that case (again if Vegas will let you do masks) is to make a garbage matte (basically a rough mask surrounding the object of interest) which will seperate it, and then you can drop out the colors from only the masked areas, with a black and white layer beneath.

all i can say is ... this is the coolest site ever and you guys are the coolest ppl out there
i will try your instructions and post here if it comes up any problems.
thanks again

my other question is that what if the object i want to colored out has multiple color? I.E. a human body, the dress is red, the face, hair...etc
do I have to do each color individually? or there's a solutions?
thanks

Yea...if you have Vegas 5 or 6...use the Beizer masking tool. Cut around your object in color frame by frame...its very accurate...but involves frame by frame work...which is a pain in the ass.

Jubal28 had it nailed as the way to go for just one color. When I'm doing it, I just take the default Second Color Corrector, drop it into the clip, then click on invert mask (I think, doing this from memory), the take the eye dropper and DRAG it over the area I want saved (i.e. if someone's wearing a red shirt, I'll drag over as much of the shirt as I can to include the darker shades of red as well, otherwise it'll get pretty blotchy). Then slide your "saturate /desaturate colors" bar all the way down, or as far as needed for your look.

Otherwise, blckhawk542's got it right if you're wanting a whole person, but you'll want to work with feathering, or it can look pretty corny ... ESPECIALLY if you've got a moving target to work with (frame by frame).

Ahh. I wasn't sure Vegas had a Bezier tool. All the better.

Yes, rotoscoping can be a pain in the ass, but sometimes, there simply ain't another way to get it right.

rotoscoping = frame by frame?
i feel like many people have been looking for that connection.
is that all it means?
