Can anyone provide a resource for purchasing color swatches for faking out the White Balance, I know about warm cards however I am looking for a wider variety?
THX
I don't know if this is what you mean, but here is an idea:
Go to a paint store, or a home depot type store. They will have every variety of color swatch you could want. And they are free!
Another option (Also free) would be to go to your local professional lighting store (Lighting for film, theater, stage - not for your home.) they will have free filter swatches that will have the entire range of colored gells that you could use as well. (they'll be from companies like Rosco)
Sfaik, WarmCards are the only commercially available product for doing this.
There are four different shades of blue, a minus green, and of course, a white card.
Alternatively, why not try the 'color temp' control built into the camera?
Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions, will look into each. Brian are you referring to the Chroma settings under Scenes? I have some gels but will see locally as well.
Thanks again all!
Even simpler, go to a stationary store and buy lots of different coloured papers. Pastels are what you're looking for, especially light blue and light orange. Other colours are also cool if you're looking for an effect.
What's good about this is that you can get a wide range of shades for very subtle adjustments.
I just finished a shoot at a conference where there were lots of conflicting lighting (windows, "warm" fluorescent (orange), "daylight" fluorescent, and incandescent in the same room!) and both asian and caucasian faces. The only way I got acceptable skin colour under all lighting conditions was to try a lot of different white balances by trying different shades under different lights. This still required white-balancing while shooting, but a few strategically-placed sheets of paper made this easy.
