Color spaces & models question

I understand that video from a DSLR is using YUV/YCbCr, but is YCbCr a color model, or a color space? Or both?

When exporting to certain formats like a lossless format the video uses an RGB color model I think. Is there a color space that it uses by default (srgb) along with the RGB model?

When importing footage into any software, Final Cut or not, I'm guessing it takes that YCbCr footage and edits it in an RGB model... or is it HSL?

Also, I'm taking it that even though the source video is YCbCr, on a monitor and when playing it back in video software, it's probably using the RGB color model and sRGB color space for playback, right?

YCbCr is a colour space, actually a set of them. Colour models are things like RGB (HSL/HSV), CIE XYZ, CMYK, etc...

Think of it like this, a colour model is what colours can be represented, and a colour space is what colours are can be used.

In this image, the horseshoe shape in the background is the model, and the triangle areas are the space.

When you export to a lossless format that says it uses RGB, you will need to check to see what colour space it uses. Although I would think the default/goto colour space is probably sRGB, since it is based on ITU.R BT-709

I don't know anything about Final Cut. As for your last question, it is safe to assume that is how it will be, although there are lots of monitors that support other colour spaces.
