Color someone's eyes

Hello. I'm still quite a novice in AE, and I thought I'd break into it by trying some simple effects. What would be the easiest way to tint someone's eyes? I don't want to paint every layer, that would be too time consuming, and not natural. I've tried a couple different things with adjustment layers and such, but I was just wondering if any of you experts had any good ideas or knew of tutorials. BTW, I only have the standard version of AE 6.0 to work with.

So it would. Why didn't I think of this before? I think I was trying to paint on my adjustment layer, rather than use a mask. How obvious that should have been. Oh well, it's just been one of those days...Thanks xl70e3!
