Color Key or wha-?

Hi--I"m trying to improve a color key I did to a little film years ago. I used a blue sheet for a background, not a great originating idea, and maybe there's not much to be done.

Here was my old original (10secs). You'll notice all the fuzz around my figure: http://elmerlang.com/SnakeAll.html

Here's where I dropped out Edge Feather and Edge Thin to get more definition, but now there's lots of tiny dots 'spangling' all over the place, particularly noticeable in the sky to the left.

I tried Chroma Keying but that was useless for me, just keyed out my figure not the background.

Any suggestions? Would AE do a better job of clearing the background?

Look at Phyx Keyer for FCP and Motion, really nice. Was originally a Shake plugin. I've found this set to be excellent keyers.

Also, you want to use an 8-point garbage matte, and keyframe it stay around the actor. It's called a "garbage matte", because it's to matte out the "garbage" in a frame you don't want to deal with, when keying. It should be the first step to pulling a good key in post.

Elmer!

Since you have short-cut hair and the video seems to be simple and short too, I'd simply do a hand matte and not use color keying at all.

I remember you from Pana forum long time ago, you crazy man! I have to catch up with your recent stuff. Good luck!

Alan! -- Thanks for the reply and info.

Here on my youtube channel are many of my films old, new and revamped (I can't help tweaking things since I never will consider a film finished till I am, too-- =) ).

Thanks again!

Yeah I've already bookmarked your channel, impressive list. Seems I'll have great movie show tonight. You know a true artist never consider any of his work finished! Keep up the good work.
See you soon!
