Color Grading AVCHD

Just wandering if anybody has much experience with the new AVCHD format.

I see that Panasonic are supplying software to transcode it to DVCPRO HD and I was wondering how well it compares in post.

How does this compression compare with HDV and DVCPRO, is it Inter or Intra compression and what color space is it 4:2:2 or 4:2:0.

Can anybody recommend a good text on the system.

Cheers

It's 4:2:0. It is a long GOP format, so editing is processor intensive.

The compression seems better than HDV.

AVCHD (AVC-HD, AVC HD) employs MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video codec with inter-frame long GOP compression, and AC-3 or PCM audio codec. A wide range of frame sizes and rates, both interlaced and progressive, is supported. Compared to HDV camcorders based on MPEG-2 codec, AVCHD camcorders achieve higher compression and lower data rates with comparable image quality.
