Color glitch?

I have a new i7 iMac with the Radeon 6970 and 2gb of VRAM. While there have been a few graphical glitches here and here (probably due to OSX Lion), operation has been smooth in Final Cut Studio 3 apps...until now.

This is what I get when I bounce a project from Final Cut into Color. The preview window doesn't display properly, and my options for playback on a digital cinema display are grayed out. I'm not sure where to begin to troubleshoot this - is this a hardware issue, a problem with Lion, or something else?

Well, since you cannot use Color properly without external hardware, ie a capture card, it is pretty much useless on an iMac at the moment. That Viewer window you see is not accurate, not at all. It is a lot brighter than the image really looks.

I say issue with Lion. Why did you upgrade? Always keep a good working system...or at least CLONE the good working system so that when stuff like this happens, going back to the good working system is very easy. I'm guessing you didn't clone...

I have 2 other computers that still work just fine, but I needed a new computer with a lot more horsepower since I'm doing a feature-length doc and my C2D systems were just not going to allow me to ingest footage and render out versions in a timely fashion. I have not upgraded any of the other systems yet and it looks like I'll have to rely on them to grade.

i have this same exact problem! did you ever find out what it is? I just finished grading a safety video for a client, exported it, and then disconnected my computer from my LCD tv (HDMI cable) and then next time I go to open color I get the same thing you do. I need to figure out what this is. I'm thinking about just reinstalling the final cut studio set and see if that works.

It's weird, turns out I have that problem ONLY when I have a monitor connected. When I disconnect and restart Color, it works just fine. Maybe it's the way external displays are handled through Thunderbolt?

Thanks for the reply. I went back and opened color with the thunderbolt cable out of my Macbook and started color. came up fine. I then turned color off and plugged in my thunderbolt hdmi cable. Loaded my color file again. I got the same problem as before, the infrared look for the display. so I shut down color again and I calibrated my monitor creating a custom calibration. After that I reloaded my color file and now it's displaying just fine on my external monitor. I'm not sure if it was just that my monitor needed to be recalibrated but it seemed to do the trick.

Color has problems if it detects more than one video card so having the other displays plugged in might be confusing it. Had a similar thing happen w/my Blackmagic card if I had it in extended desktop mode.
