Color Difference seeing in IMAC Vs LCD/Plasma

Friends,

I just finished editing a 30 mins film. I worked on 24" IMAC for the whole process (editing, color correction, sound etc.). I was pretty happy with the results until I burned a DVD and watched the film on 42" LCD TV and then on 50" PLASMA TV.
Playing the film on TVs shows brighter blacks and mediums. It is not looking prettier anymore the way I had been seeing it in the IMAC.

What, if any, suggestions/recommendations do you have for me to tackle this scenario? My fear is that if I send the film to festivals it may not play/look the way I want them to see it. Do I have to re-do my color correction with LCD as my main screen while editing and adjust the whites/blacks and mediums to it?

Thanks
Mahesh

unfortunatly you will have to get a reference monitor. You can't depend on your computer monitor to tell you how it's going to look on screen. Don't forget to use your toolbench and view those scopes.

yep, same thing happened to me after ediding my last entire project on my XPS M1330, showed it on a projector and on my Plasma and it looked horrid, ughhh, i guess ill know fo rnext time.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am going to try that.
FYI: Today I tried seeing the film on a Sony Rear Projection TV and the colors came out exactly as what I have been seeing in the IMAC. Does that mean film projection will be fine?

In any case I'm going to double check in the reference monitor and make adjustments.

Any other feedback is very much appreciated.

Thanks again..

They are all right about using a reference monitor. But it's also very helpful to have your LCD monitor properly calibrated. All the new iMac's I've seen were not very accurate and had a real high contrast to them. This can make colors look more vibrant then they really are, and images can look more contrasty then they really are.

So get a quality monitor calibrator and it will make a big difference to what you see on the LCD. Do that AND get a reference monitor.
