Color Correction?

I have been using 3-way for some time but I have heard lingo of some complex color correction stuff, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what other tools are good for achieving jawsome colors in FCP?

If you do a google for FCP Color Correction DVD- you'll find a couple of great tutorials on how to improve DVD. You can also do this with Magic Bullet for Editors though IMHO the speed hit is too high to be usable.

Making a DVD with finished Sequence.

I have finished the 600 page FCP certified training book, but no where in there did it tell me how to make a DVD. I could probably make one in iDVD but looking through that I wasn't for sure how to do it. Is iDVD the best way and if so is there a manual that walks through the features of iDVD? thanks.

Um, that would be in the DVD Studio Pro trianing book. Cause "FCP" does not make DVDs, DVDSP does.

And I second Blaine, that book will show you how to color grade properly, professionally. It's worth doing no matter who's plug-in you use. Becuase no matter how good the tool is, if you don't know how to use it properly, you still won't get the results you want.

You need to learn the other tools as well as 3 way. Experiment with RGB balance in particular. This can be a lot more effective than 3-way for correcting color. Do a bit of research into color theory and work out what happens to color when you increase/decrease red green or blue. Get a good understanding of the scopes in FCP, they aren't the best but they do a job and once you know how to read the RGB parade for example, you will know what needs to be done to correct an image.

I have Final Studio, does "DVD Studio Pro" come in that package? Is there a link to a book that walks a person through how to make a DVD, using either iDVD or DVD Studio Pro? I found the FCP certified training manual that has an interactive disc to load lessons more valuable than any other way to learn. I was kind of pissed that it didn't come with the Final Cut Studio package.

You're pissed that Final Cut Studio comes with a 4 or 5 volume library, and the huge ass APTS book is extra? Wow, wake up! That's life! The folks who write the APTS books are not Apple employees, but industry leaders who contract to Apple to do these. It's a whole separate department from everything else. Be glad Apple made the effort. Rather, one person at Apple got the "Apple Pro Training Series" going, and she's a fantastic person. You should be grateful that the books are done at all, rather than be pissed. Who else supports and "helps to produce" such fantastic third-party books on their own software?

FCS does, in fact, come with tutorials, and VERY good ones at that. I suggest you look at them first.

If you have Final Cut Studio, you have DVD Studio Pro. The APTS books on DVDSP will show you how to make a DVD just fine.

take a deep breath.

take a deep breath.

Take a chill pill. It is much easier to learn from an interactive disc that follows a book, imo. I think most will agree this is easier than reading some dry libary (1,ooo's of pages) and then trying to apply it.

Call me old fashioned, but the way I learned DVD Studio Pro is by reading the DVD Studio Pro User Manual. You know, the one underneath Help.

The plethora of knowledge is right there at your fingertips, and for free! You don't really need to buy a tutorial guide.

But if all that text is daunting and you prefer walk-throughs with pictures (i.e. a visual learner), then prepare to shell out some dough for your distaste of reading.

Did you know that a couple of the very BEST tutorials to learn DVDSP actually come with the application? They take only a few minutes each, and get you up and running really well better than anything on the market. And they come WITH DVDSP! Anyone ever look at them?

The tutorials that come with all the Final Cut Pro Studio applications are about the BEST way to get started. For some reason, most users don't bother to look, and never know the resource is there.

Concur.

There are actuelly quite a few "interactive tutorials" which are very good that come with FCS.

"Interactive" lin the APTS meaning of the word...

(Irony switch on:)
I even almost thought motion was fun after going through that part -;)
