Color Correction...

I have a shoot coming up where the artist wants to be driving a specific black truck. I know someone that owns this truck but its white. Now, I do remember seeing something when I was doing some color correction on another project. That little eye dropper icon. Is there a way that I could turn the white truck black by clicking anywhere in the white and selecting black as my color to replace it with? I know it is probably easier just finding a black truck but If I can do this in post then I could use that effect for other projects!

Re: Color Correction...

FCP's 3-way color-corrector and the regular color-corrector have "limit effect" controls that allow you to select a specific color or range of colors (adjustable by color, luma, and saturation), and to affect only that selected color with the CC filter. This should allow you to select the white truck, then manipulate just the truck color and alter it to whatever color you want.

The "limit effect" controls are accessible by clicking the triangle at the bottom left corner of the color-corrector filters.

Keep in mind, however, that while in theory, the limit effect controls can allow you to change the color of a truck, shirt, flowers, sky, or whatever else you need to alter, in practice, they often don't work perfectly, unless your footage is well lit and the object whose color you want to change is distinct from everything else in the frame.

The limit effect controls allow you to set color range, saturation, luminance, (plus the softness of each parameter) so you have a certain amount of finesse in selecting just a certain color, but don't count on it to save the day.

Re: Color Correction...

That will be almost an impossible task since you will be converting from "white" to "black" you will lose the car's paint laquer reflections as well. Basically it will look WEIRD! ;)
