Color Correction

Hi,
I'm new at color correction, and these are some examples of some of my color correction. The original picture is the last one.

Please comment! Thanks.

The first one looks a bit too yellow/gold, but I don't know the context of this shot. In some production designs, it might be appropriate for a flashback.

The second one does not look natural in any way; white is no longer white but light lavender.

The third one is the most natural-looking, and the best, IMO.

Yeah, the third one is the best for video youtube-look. If you're looking to get the traditional film look, then you need even lower contrast, sharpness and saturation than the original pic. And don't over-expose, because you will have to simulate more dynamic range in that case.

I actually like the first one. Gives it that kinda California feel. I wouldn't see it as a problem, especially since most people shoot HD and don't correct and the entire image comes out very warm with the reds. The way you shoot, you have way more flexibility in post, so props to ya!

IMHO, both the first one and the second one scream "look, I color-graded mom!". They are over the top. Over the top is good, if your film is over the top. Or if it's a music video. But if you're dealing with a more normal short film, or documentary or something like that, then you will have to go easy on color grading too. So withouthttp://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=58489 RenderedMage telling us what kind of video this is, we can't help further.

Thanks guys for all your input! I really appreciate it!
I'm not exactly good at color correction, and these few pictures are actually my first ones. I was experimenting with different looks and stuff, so there was really no context in mind.
Instead, how about you guys tell me what you think the context of each individual color graded is just by looking at it? What feel, what mood and such.
The first one kind of reminds me of CSI: Miami, don't really know why 0.o
Also, could anyone tell me how one judges if the color grading is too much? When I was doing the first one I thought it looked okay and gave it a surreal look(those kind in zombie films when everything is dead and destroyed) but of course I have amateur eyes, so how do I get it to not be glaring and unnatural but at the same time convey a mood?
Thanks again for the comments, and I'm glad El Director liked the first one. Thanks! ^^

Again, you don't give us the right information to help you. What kind of video this is? A short film? A music video? A documentary? A random skateboarding video? A family video? A corporate video? A commercial? Or just some footage you had around and just wanted to play with?

For each different kind of video, you apply a different technique. You want calming, low contrast look for a short film, you want a video-y look for a documentary, and you might want a crazy look for a music video. It all depends.
