OK, i'll admit im pretty new to the advanced editing world. ANd i hear the term "color correction" thrown around alot. to some people it seems to be, tinting their footage, to tothers it seems to be making them life like.

What is it inthe professional sense? like the definition?

Re: Color correction?

Basically color correction can be exactly what the phrase defines. Correcting the color of the image. Now this can split off in two directions. First, this means getting proper skin tones and overall exact tonal defenition. Second, this could mean the exact opposite. Color correction can be used as an expressive means by wich one can portray a certain mood or situation through the predominent colors on the screen. What is the right way to use it. Well, that all depends on your final product, but one thing that is important is a good knowledge of color theory, ie what do colors represent, how do additive and subtractive colors react with eachother, and how can complimentary colors be used to correct a scene to the way that the editor wants it to look. All of these things need to be learned, and practiced.

Re: Color correction?

To add to Scharky's comment, there are 3 reasons (usually) that you need C/C.
1. You forgot to white balance.
2. You are matching 2 cameras so the colors don't appear to shift between the shots.
3. For special effect, unique look, specific ambience.

Vegas has all you need. I recommend starting with Color Balance, then the Color Correction tools.
