Color Correction, masking etc...

Hey there all,

I have trolled the premeire forums and downloaded some videos and I cant seem to find some deeper descriptions of color correction within CS4. I'm down to Vegas and Premeire as my NLE options and I want to get sense of how CS4 handles CC, masking etc. The videos on Adobe are informative but lacking in describing the CC workflow.

I'm really impressed on how Final Cut 7 does "moving masks" and I hope Premerie has something similar.

thanks for any replies...and if any one can point me to any videos that would be great!!!

No go on the masking. The best tool that's Premiere got is 4 and 8 points Garbage matte, and no edge feathering option. You can go to Magic Bullet Looks and get masking that way, but the option still isn't as comprehensive as say, After Effects.

Color correction wise Premiere is on par with most other NLE, all the basic options are there and a few handy one, i.e Fast Color Corrector.

For obvious reasons I'm sticking to Vegas for now but I have done really nice and fast color correction in premiere CS4 and from what I remember maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago, it was pretty easy. Your better off searching the cow than adobe when it comes to that.

premiere cs4's built in CC is not too great
I would prefer colorista in premiere, but cs4 isn't quite compatible with it
magic bullet looks does a decent job doing the CC in premiere cs4

What exactly are you trying to do that Premiere Pro can not do?

Actually,

I'm want to do a few things with premeire but I'm not sure if it can.

I want to be able to play around with creating vingnette's and also move them around to create a focal point(s). Final cut 7 does this fantastically.

Can premiere create vingnette effects?

Not without some advanced color correction techniques or third party plug-ins. if you have after Effects, get Magic Bullet. The vignette effects is amazing

Premiere Pro will kick the crap out of Final Cut Pro because the titler is like using Photoshop (gradients) and all titles can be used as masks or mattes.

Premiere Pro does secondary color correction.

You might want to check out the video links below. I am not the best video editor but youw will see some good secondary CC in the one video and some track mattes in the other.

PP CS4 is very powerful. I hope this helps clear things up for you.
