Color Correction - jpg setup?

My project deals with a large time line 1769 A.D. – 3998 A.D. To separate different periods I’m going to do color changes.

I already have the color for the future (3998 A.D.) and 1769 A.D. As for 2014 I put together a nice look and for the 1970’s more of a bright look. I’m having problems with 2010. I wanted to post a few stills from different time line showing what route I’m going with and with help from the gang on this forum maybe I will be able to find the right colors for the rest of the film. What I don’t know how to do is make jpg still from Vegas to show what I have if even if you can do that?

Thanks,

At the top of the Preview window there is a button labeled "Save Snapshot To File". Clicking this will create a still image of the current frame in your video. For the best quality image, you'll want to have your preview quality settings set to "Best" and "Full".

This photo from the future scene 3998 A.D. Not the best angle but least gives you an idea of color that I'm keeping for this time line.

This is the area that I need to change the color. I can post more photos from this time line giving out and inside photos. I'm really looking for something that makes it stand out from the others. This time line is the longest period in the film.

I assume 2010 is supposed to be 'today'. Since all past and future dates have special color schemes, I would make 'today' look more or less 'normal' -- whatever 'normal' is. :)

The future scene is raw from the camera setting (HVX) and I like the look I was going after and the scene from the 70's is also raw footage from the camera setting. 2014 was color correction. The last photo is from the camera setting but really need to pull away from the other looks to separate the looks.

Hmm. Why are these letterboxed? You really should be working on a timeline which matches your footage, especially if you're doing FX.

The snapshot gives you exactly what's in your preview window. Looks like you're working in a 4:3 project. If you export as 16:9, it'll be 16:9 with no letterboxing regardless of your project settings, but you may very well find that things like text are misplaced. Plus, you're using processor power you don't need to be.

Hey David I wonder if I even have my editing system set up right? I shot 720P 24PN using the HVX200A. The program is Vegas Pro 9

Here is what my Raylight looks like – let me know if I need to change my setting;

Here is what my computer setup looks like - on the left is my footage that I look at as I go though my files searching for the right film clip and on the right is what I go by on editing (on my timeline) and of course is set on low res (it is also in letterbox);

I remade the still using the left window instead of the right window, I can’t make a still from the color correction shots since it is in the time line and not on the MXF file;

It's not Raylight that's the issue; it's your project settings. Looks like you may be working in a 4:3 DV project. You want to be working an HD 24p project.

You can make better screenshots by clicking on a window (like the Properties window here) and pressing CTRL+ALT+PRNTSCRN and then pasting into Paint. Then save.

Go to the down arrow and choose HDV 720-24p. Go to the Ruler tab and make sure the time format is 23.976 (another drop-down).

If you're planning to do a lot with 720p/24pN, then click "Start all new projects with these settings."

Not really necessary if your footage frame size matches your project frame size. Really only comes into play if you're resizing video.
