Color correction is ruining my titles

Hi. Why is it that simply dragging the color corrector (or color corrector 3-way) into a clip in the timeline causes titles I created for the clip to display incorrectly? I haven't even made any changes with the color corrector -- but now the text in my title clip, which I created using the Text "text generator", is blurry. Before I dragged the color corrector into the clip, the text was perfect. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

Any thoughts you have on this would be much appreciated.

OOPS. Never mind. The text just wasn't rendered. Sorry.

I gather that the text is embedded into the video clip. I'd say to split them up; the text clip and video clip onto different layers. Apply the cc only to the video clip. I experienced the same occurance using FCP 3 on a dual powerG4.

good luck!

My text clip is separate from my video clip, as you suggest -- but I recently started working with FCP 5, and I didn't realize that it thinks about rendering a little differently from FCP 4 (not that I understand rendering in FCP 4, either). So things would need rendering, but I wouldn't realize it... But I'm starting to get it...

Rumigirl,

When you drag the color corrector, FCP changes the preview quality of the clip so you can see the changes in real time (RT Extreme). That is why everything will seem lower quality. You can see that instead of a blue render bar, you have now a green bar, on top of your tracks, in the timeline.

The computer will render theese files automatically when you print it to video. If it's imprtant that you see the preview in full quality (even if not in real time) you can disable RT extreme. It's a button to the left of the timeline.

I hope this helps...

Taubkin, thank you, thank you, thank you... I noticed the green bar, but didn't understand it... Instead of disabling RT extreme (good trick, which I might start using -- is RT extreme the same as RT Unlimited?), I "configured" FCP to render preview/green things automatically when I select "Render selection"... And now I render fiendishly, to make sure I'm seeing things in their final form as soon and as often as possible... (I'm very new to this, so I haven't learned to get frustrated by rendering yet.) But I like knowing WHY Final Cut was messing with me that way. It really helps to understand the logic of the program better... :-) Thanks!!!!
