color correction and grading

Dear All,
I am going to finish a film and need advice about color grading.
I am shooting the whole project by DVX100 with a 35mm Nikon lens mount, and I am doing the editing on Avid Xpress Pro. What would you suggest me to do about the color grading?
First, what kind of facility? da Vinci, descreet or Avid DS HD? What are the major differences between them? Anyone has any experience to share with me? I am really not familiar with them. I used to just using Avid Xpress Pro built in color correction mode and hooking up a tuned Sony 9" Professional monitor to correct the color by myself.
Also, if I am correct, DV is a 8 bit image. But do you think I should transfer the image to higher bit for doing color correction, maybe 10 or 12 bit?
Thanks in advance.

I use Avid Xpress Pro for all my CC. I use curves... see what you can do with that... its suited me very well, and I've been able to acheive many of the same looks that filters like Magic Bullet give you... save money, and do it on Avid.

Today, I had a chance to look at people working with Descreet Luster. It has a mask function, so one can make a specific area, for example, sky, darker. Cool. I don't think we can do it on Avid Xpress Pro, right? Maybe, I just miss this function.
Thanks.
