color corect problem

I am editing a feature and its mixed media 35mm and dv and hd, all edited in a 29.97 ntsc dv sequence, I just shot a few interviews on the hvx at 24 p 720/480 and I shot them dark, when I try to color correct them in an hd sequence it works grate but when I bring them into my dv sequence they all turn to mud, I've tried exporting them a couple of ways and I get the same affect mud mud mud any ideas?

You'll have to try to do a colormatch (look it up in your manuals, it's not really a "do this and you're fine" process, you'll have to read end experiment).

Use (several instanses) of the 3-way CC. And play with levels. They're powerfull tools.

I won't suggest what is best: Doing it in HD (by importing some SD content for reference) or the other way around. You'll have to try.

DV is pretty muddy, compared to HD, though... So I don't really see why you choose to edit in DV. For CC'ing Dvcpro 50 is a much more tolerant format.

To clearify a bit, you can limit where the 3-way CC takes a dab at your footy, and for some instances you don't want it to affect the whole image, just certain parts of the luma and/or chroma spectrum. This approach may lead to several CC'ers being used to adjust only one image.

It's hard to explain more without seeing the trublesome footage and what it is to be blended with. (And I'm in am middle of something for tomorrow, too and cannot really do this for you.)

To brighten up dark footage, I'd drop it into the SD Sequence first. Then with the 3-Way Color Corrector only adjust the mids, try not to touch the white or black settings if you can avoid it. And only adjust the mids as little as you have to.

But experiment, experiment a lot.
