Color Coding Stingers?

How common is it for rental houses to color code stingers? A couple in my neck of the woods use orange tape at both ends for 25 footers and red for 50s.

I use two stripes of colored tape to keep my own stingers and power cables identified from everyone else's.

Other color coding for lights, electric, etc., in your experience?

I never even noticed if they were color coded. Generally speaking, it's pretty easy to distinguish a 25 footer from a 50 footer.

It's always a good idea to have some identifying color or color combo on ALL your gear. I've had stuff disappear into someone else's truck before and of course never saw any of it again. Now I have a template that I use to spray my symbol onto anything and everything I have with a particular green color.

When I bought my stingers I made sure the 100' was a different color.

I use colors to help my amateur/free crew differentiate between types of cables. Blue cable, blue bin. :)

I found the use of plastic garbage cans (round ones) useful for my stingers and have a can for 25 footers and one for 50-100 footers. Although I do have a few orange stingers, I prefer the black cords, as they are easier to hide on a set.
I also bought the circular wheel set, which screws on to the bottom of the can , so I can just roll them around on sets.

See I prefer the brightly coloured cables because they stand out... and I can tell if they are in frame immediately. Much happier than finding a cable later in post.

Rented cables here at Whites / Pana / PS don't seem to be colour coded for length...

I usually just segregate stingers into separate milk crates by length. I prefer black cables for those times when I have to hide them in frame.

I write the length of the cable on the plug with a silver sharpie on both ends of the cable just for quick reference. The cable is otherwise black 12/3 with hospital grade Hubbel's.
