Collateral esque lighting strips

Was typing up some hw while watching the Collateral making of,
as far as the lighting I've seen a few threads on Mann's use of digital and film under cinematography but what I haven't been able to find
(yes I did use search) was any reference to the lighting strips they used in the car interiors.
While talking about the hero cars for the movie they mention the interiors being velcro accepting and the go on to show a lighting strip I've not seen before, apparently they are the same lighting strips used in mobile (cell) phones but made to certain color temps.

Any details about who makes these little things, prices, and so forth?
Better yet anyone who has used them? They look like they put out a pretty decent wattage, and run off of a fairly standard electrical connector.

Would try take mine apart and take a looksy but ah ... phone ended up in the bottom of a pool... long weekend

All the leds floating around the diy section are interesting
The lighting rope posted earlier today doesn't seem to be the same thing
any input appreciated.

I watched that BTS also, and it seems to me they mentioned they were custom made. It's been a while though. Custom as in big budget movie so just name a price and we'll pay it kinda money. I dont think that's something you'll find for sale somewhere.

(Someone will be by in a couple hours and entirely prove me wrong.)

Rezfactor, thanks for taking the time to look this up. I am definately interested in working with something like this.

its not exactly what Mann used but its also not nearly as expensive... and they are readily available

I've used these on interior car shots, they work great... they are small and easy to hide

Check out the back issue of American Cinematographer. They have an excellent article about the lighting for Collateral and some great stuff about the lighting set up inside the cars.

This is the stuff guys. http://www.lighttape.com/ In the BTS, either the DP or the Gaffer mentions the product name. I looked them up a few qute a while ago, pretty cool stuff, though not exactly indended for film/video, obviously it will work. If I had some expendable income I would definately do some experimenting. Seems like a more flexible and usable alternative to MicroFlo's. If I ever have a budget.....
