Collaboration/Communicaton Tools

I wasn't sure what section to put this thread in, so I apologize if it's misplaced.

I'm interested in finding out what kind of tools people use for collaboration and communication when working on a film or video production.

Is there a need for an all-encompassing tool? Does one exist today?

Back when I had a production team, I setup database scripts that integrated into each other. The forum was used more than anything. These days there are things like Google's services that do a lot of that, and fully functioning content management systems (CMS is a common acronym). A lot of options exist, it depends exactly what kind of collaboration is needed. In my case it was script viewing and updating, scheduling and recruiting more than anything. Some people need to transfer files and have to go a different route.

I first make sure everyone on my team has Celtx. I use Linux, my producer uses Apple, and other members use Windows. Celtx is cross platform, so not only do I use it to write, but it handles scheduling and reports as well. Once everyone has Celtx, I can e-mail them the actual script so they can add their own notes and print out the info they need. I have a private website set up for sharing notes, animatics, and other things we may need to share.
