Damn, I can't believe I just read through this entire thread! WTF! All I have to say is that picture of that shaved pissed off cat was probably one of the funniest pics I've seen in awhile. I was litterally laughing at that for mintues! This is a long as muthaphucken thread!

All we could say definitively is, dig dis: *if* all oda' din's is equal, den de deo'etical potential 'esists dat an HD-SDI reco'din' would be supuh'io' t'a P2 reco'din', but ONLY IF de medod used t'reco'd da damn HD-SDI signal retains de full fidelity! Right on!

Sucka's is rappin' about pipin' de HD-SDI signal out t'a DVCPRO-HD deck. Ya' know? Well, yeah dude, ya' could do dat, but ya' plum gave down every advantage yo' signal had upside de P2 DVCPRO-HD reco'din' -- so's whut's de point? De Canon would be tedered t'a $26,000 deck, vs. de Panasonic able t'reco'd po'tably t'its tiny on-bo'd cards... so's why do it?

De advantage t'de HD-SDI be if ya' kin reco'd it in its full glo'y, most likesly t'a RAID uh hard disks, and dat's gonna set ya' back maybe $20,000. And it's goin' t'keep ya' tedered t'dat clunker. But if ya' do dat, if ya' bite da damn bullet and configure da damn system likes dat, den yeah man ya' kin gots better-quality final reco'din's.

Oda' dan dat, it's all deo'etical. Someday some fool may invent some po'table FireSto'e-style device dat kin reco'd an HD-SDI type signal, but consida' dat da damn Vipuh' Filmstream gots fine much dat same kind'a doodad, and it costs $54,000 and reco'ds only 10 minutes.

I would dink de future would honky jibe in developin' some radical lossless codec as some fust step -- de Video Toasta' 2 used t'suppo't "uncompressed" SDI editin' cuz' it used some madematically lossless codec t'shrink de stash sizes by sump'n likes 40%. But even wid sump'n likes dat in place, youse still rapin' about some data rate uh around 120 megabytes puh' second; dat's still goin' t'require some RAID uh maybe foe hard disks in o'da' to be able t'reco'd.

(unless dey implement some lossy compression system, such as DVCPRO-HD o' H.264; dat'll shrink de data rate, but it'll also be givin' back de advantages ya' wuz tryin' t'gain by usin' HD-SDI).
