Need no Explination. Go to the HBS forum. The plans are inform of book and are now being published for $35. Yes, he's a member of HBS and I'm proud to say it. Promotion? you bet, but don't take my word for it. His plans are the best out there, as far as I know.

I'll be putting an official review of it in my book which will hopefully be out early next year. Just waiting for some hi rez pics from Steadicam and GPI Pro.

So Andrew and those that didn't get a chance to get those plans. You got it now and the price as been lower now. for those aspirant, here's your chance to take a dive into the world of stabilizing, if you've got the energy.

Re: Cody's plans are back

Hey charles, have you built one of those? I'm currently looking at what different stabilizers are out there and am pretty interested in getting one for the dvx100. I've used glidecam before, and will do some practicing with "the real thing" (steadicam) at work. Would love to try a homebuilt one if we ever get together for that music video!

Johan, here are all the models I've built during my 7 years of trying to built the perfect stabilizer:

A pic of the most recent one, I'm upgrading, can be seen on the HBS website under Charles's rig. Actually the new pics have not been uploaded yet but you can still see the photo of it in the link. I will upload soon. I'm waiting for pieces of my arm to be done by my machinist.

Look out for the book I'm putting out early next year. I have descibed the methods I used to achieve the present rig. Tons of pics of my rig and systems built by other people. there will be pics from Steadicam, GPI Pro and Glidecam. I got the rights to use some photos that they are taking for my book.

Johan, don't worry, I'll be using my dolly and Stabilizer for this music video and I will definately need someone to help use it to shoot a big scene. Hint! Hint! ;)

Re: Cody's plans are back

The demo clips of Cody's rig are up on the HBS website. Or you can see those wonderful clips at the direct link:
These are some awesome clips. Prepared to be amazed. Remember, Cody as been doing this for some time. so he has had lots of practice.

Re: Cody's plans are back

Hi Charles,
I own a Glidecam V8 that has not been used as I was awaiting the arrival of my DVX which I just got.
Well everthing is finally in one place.

Tomorrow i will start the journey...

Have you used this system with the DVX and what issues I can do to make the system better.

Also what types of practice shooting ideas would you advise.

I heard the one about tying a balloon to a chair and putting a grease pencil cross on both your viewing monitor and X on the balloon...line em up.

Re: Cody's plans are back

Hi Taylor.

Unfortunately I have not tried the V8 only the v16. Again, I don't have the DVX100 but it is on m,y wish list.

Although I cannot tell you my experience because I havn't tried it, the principle of operations hold true to all stabilizer device. One thing to remember is that a stabilizer performs better with more weight. That is to say, the heavier the camera the smoother the shots - The rule of inertia.

You can add more weights by adding accessories or the small disc weight that Glidecam supplies with their sytems. Just don't over run the maximum weight of the system, which is 10 pounds, I think.

Here are some links to those that are flying the Glidecam v8 systems. You might want to post some questions to those that are actually using the system.

I hope this helps. :)

A good tip you can use is connect a clothing line between two posts at head level and practise walking the line. This is a common practise and quite difficult to control, because of the so call bounce. This is usually common with beginners.
This is the bounce or up and down movement one gets when walking with light loads or not properly cushning your movements as you walk.
With the combination of the adjustment of the arm and your movements you can eliminate this motion. These types of faults are more evident when tracking an individual along side them.
