Coding Websites/Portfolios

I'm working on building my website and I'm on the most important part... the "films" page.

Basically what I want to do is have thumbnails for each film and then I want to be able to link those thumbnails to an embedded video. I saw someone on here who had a killer site— where each thumbnail created a pop-up within the browser, without opening a new tab or window— and the pop-up had an embedded video (either vimeo or youtube, depending on where it came from). It also "turned down the lights" like Hulu does, which was pretty sweet.

Anyone know how to do this? Does anyone have this feature on their site? I'd love to see more portfolio sites too!

I used lightbox. Same stuff. Check it out here: http://awakenedfilms.com/reel.html

You need to have the right java scripts and swfs in place, but the coding is pretty easy.

"<p align="right"><a href="http://www.awakenedfilms.com/media/awakened_films_demo.flv" rel="mediabox[640 360]" title="AWAKENED FILMS - 2009 DEMO REEL; FILMED AND EDITED BY JASON SCHULER"><img src="images/awakenedfilms_demo.jpg" alt="Awakened Films Demo reel - click here" width="400" height="183" />"

Everything between <a href= and <img src, is the lightbox code. Everything to the right of it <img src, is simply the image that is clicked on to start the lightbox effect.

cool. looks great. thanks for the breakdown.

i have a follow up question, do i need to upload the lightbox code to my own server to reference it?
