Club lights (How Can I achieve a similar look?)

I'm afraid I don't really know that much about them but as long as you programmed all your patterns to avoid a certain area which the camera was in, hopefully you wouldn't have a problem. I'd guess that you'd be able to set up blackout zones designed to protect the eyes of club patrons or performance audiences.

No idea on US rental either, sorry!

I actually had the same "struggle" with a similar Music Video. The brief was to create a stereotypical American Frat Party with lasers and strobe.

To achieve the effect you posted, on a budget, head over to Ebay and get the $30 Mini Lasers. They kick a powerful punch and its really small. Dont forget you'll need a fog or smoke machine, otherwise the effect wont work.

In reply to the camera, as long as there is no prolonged exposure of the Laser on the lens, you'll be as right as rain. (:

No prolonged exposure-

actually, a straight shot from the laser into the lens can fry your sensor in a milisecond. Don't let it happen. Shield the lens.

I'm sure the $30 eBay lasers aren't as powerful as the professional grade ones but I'd be shielding the lens anyway, it's not worth taking the risk. Putting a flag near the laser source which lines up with the lens might be the safest way to do it.

Unfortunately what they are using is something that's a bit more powerful. They are using club lasers with quite a bit of smoke in the air. That's what's giving those fat beams of light. What you are looking for is something more like this: http://www.ellumiglow.com/Chauvet-Scorpion-GBC-Club-Laser-p/chscgbc.htm

Those lasers are going to give you the power you want. Make sure the camera man is using laser goggles.
