Close up of Text

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
I have a shot in an upcoming short, where I show text in a novel, really close, and I want to pay attention on a certain word "Booker"...Should i zoom in real close, and film that area of which "Booker" is in, then in post, add a vignette effect, and gradually blur everything, until Booker is nice and noticable? Or is there another nicer way of doing this, WITHOUT lenses lol.

Doing it in post will give you a lot more control. I'd do a nice gradual dissolve from the plain page to your 'vignette' effect (as above) version of the same page.

Another option would be to highlight the required text using lighting, e.g. a thin line of light through a doorway or through sunlit trees or whatever - if you can make it look coincidental and not contrived, that could look nice

I think post is your only way to go because I believe otherwise you'd need a phatty macro lens... which then means a whole bunch of stuff to mount for the dvx

Oh no doubt i'm doing this effect in post, just wanted some ideas. I think i'll stick to my vignette, and maybe try clang bang's idea :)

O man a macro lens would be PERFECT
