Clips shifting in timeline

I am editing in FCE4, I have a few video tracks and audio tracks set where I want them, but I tried to delete a piece of the audio from earlier in the timeline, and when I did that it shifted all of the audio and video clips after that over a few seconds, is there a setting I need to turn off or on so everything stays where it should be when I try to add or delete a clip?

I have been trying for an hour to figure out the answer to your problem. But I can't seem to find any options in any of the menus that change this setting. Good luck!

on the timeline at the top right there are 3 small boxes. by default i believe they all are selected but if you unselect one of them it fixes it...i think. i forget which one but if you hover the mouse over the button it may say what each of the buttons does.
