Clipping...

I got an alesis multimix 8 usb mixer. I was working with it today and i didn't watch the led monitor to carefully and when testing between really soft and really loud acoustic guitar playing i think i clipped really badly. Now it has an awful sound when i use it. It's really crackly and robotic. Will that go away? What should i do about it? Since i just got it do you think the warrenty would cover it?

thanks

Turn it down. As a Rule of Thumb, set volume levels toward the middle. Unless you have a bad cord or somehow fried the mixer, it should work fine. Start it up, reset it if necessary and try again.

If you're plugging the guitar straight into the board, set the guitar's volume to about 3/4 of the way up, if you're using a mic, that obviously doesn't apply.

Set that channel on the board's volume to 0dB with the gain all the way down. If I recall, Alesis doesn't actually mark 0dB on the level knobs, so its probably halfway up. There's probably a slight detent at the 0dB position.

Then, play the guitar and bring the gain up until the meters top about around 0 when you're playing your loudest.

The same applies for everything else you may run through the board, you want to take the time to set your gain before you get down to work/play.
