Clipping with Rolls mxf422 and HVX

We are running an AT 4073a through a Rolls mxf422 to an HVX. We try to keep the VU of the Rolls leveled at -10 and the camera at -12 with Phantom Power off.
-However, whatever we try the audio out of the camera is clipping. When we monitor the Rolls however, the audio is fine.
The ALC on the camera is turned off and the gain on the camera is set to -50.

Ensure you arent sending a line level to a mic level input on the camera. This is most probably the problem.

Try turning ALC on, too - its a limiter not an auto level control.

good to know that at least you get audio to the camera :)
never mind ,next time try to buy a book before the equip

Thanks a lot, that was very helpful timapter, and I appreciate your understanding attitude Mr. Exileonthemainstreet. I'll feel welcome to come here next time with my stupid questions.

Stupid questions are ones that you got an answer to before and have to ask again. If Exile intimidates you you might have to consider a new line of work. He's sharp but he's not mean, and there care some VERY mean folks in this biz.

I just looked up the Rolls mixer - looks to be a pretty slick unit for the price - and it supports confidence monitoring. You'll want to run a stereo cable from the HVX headphone out to the Rolls' Monitor Input. This will allow you to switch between monitoring the mixer's output and montoring the signal as it's recorded on tape.

The best practice is to use the mixer's slate tone to calibrate the meters on the mixer so that they read the same as the HVX's meters.

Cheers
Joe
