Clerks 2: Video Diary

Just found this on Digg.com

http://www.clerks2.com/

They have posted a few short videos from the production "in progress." On a side note, it looks as if the videos are being filmed with a DVX100 / 100A. There's a little panny credit at the end of each clip.

More videos are scheduled to be added as production progresses. Looks interesting.

Thanks. I love these movie vlogs.

EDIT: I retract my previous statement. I love the King Kong and Superman vlogs.

Very, very Kool. More stuff to download  Brian's Superman blogs are Kool but PJ has the absolute best. So far I have downloaded all of kongisking, and all but one of bluetights (only because they have a 75meg file I cannot download on my dialup and my sister does not have quicktime pro  ) Oh well, might have to sneak download it at work.

YES. I've had that sneaking suspicion that Clerks 2 is Kevin's way of trying to "save face" on Jersey Girl and his ViewAskew Legacy. Let's hope it's not an utter disasterpiece.

Looks and smells like the DVX100

I never got the hype aorund Kevin Smith; like Robert Rodriguez, I respect his indiependent spirit and support for the indie filmmaking community but feel his work always overrated and hyped.

Clerks was cute but hardly great filmmaking; the story behind Clerks I think was most impressive

Chasing Amy was a cute indie film

The rest? Mallrats? Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? Dogma (****ing stupid ass film)? Jersey Girl? and now The Passion of the Clerks? This guy makes George Lucas look adventurous and original.

I do dig his East Coast approach to filmmaking (I too say **** Hollywood) and like some of the stuff he has done; funny. But think it's time to move onto other things.

And what the ****? Not only are the videos B O R I N G they aren;t even using Calibrated monitors; is it dark anywhere else? Jeez.

But hey; K SMITH don't care what I think. :lipsrseal

well i do like his ideas of suburbannite people able to do extrodinary adventures. and he goofs on himself all the time who canit like that about someone?

He did this talk back thing that was pretty funny - responding to all the internet fans/haters. One thing that I thought was emblematic of him as a director, is the fact he didn't learn that diff. lenses have diff. characeristics, until his 4th or 5th film (Vilmos had to school him).

All I can say is WTF? You have to be a pretty damn lazy (or incompetent) as a director not to learn that much earlier, or at the very least know the basics.

Anyone who can bank coin doing what they love, and make a living at it, while not hurting others is alright in my book. But he should show more respect for the craft.

I'd like to know the reason he was fired from "Green Lantern" and "Fletch", though.

I thought he and Harvey Weinstein were drinking buddies (or eating buddies:))

Yeah, those vlogs are too long (read: self-indulgent), the second one is way dark, and so far they've taught me ZERO about filmmaking.

The man's greatest strength is his writing.

My worthless opinion: Kevin Realized he was *Very Quickly* on his way to selloutville and was able to wiggle his way out of two more flops. Passion is just a way to get some of his "street cred" back if you will.

/end Smith conspiracy talk

Because he has ZERO skills as a filmmaker perhaps? Did anyone here even see DOGMA? It looked like something 'We'd' make.

The studio probally was like "**** that." We ain't giving this dude that much money. Even Peter Jackson displayed some skills (His leap from Dead Alive to say The Frighteners for example) before being handed the LORD OF THE RINGS

Would you give Kevin Smith a 100 Million to make a superhero film if your career depended on it?

I didn't think so.

Couldn't agree more. Smith should stick to "talking head films" like Clerks. He writes damn fine / funny dialogue. Let's not get too carried away and think we're John Woo Kevin.

That's the most hilarious thing I've read in weeks... and there's been some great threads recently.

There seems to be some mis-information about The Green Hornet, NOT Green Lantern... he wrote some Green Arrow comics for Marvel, maybe that's where the confusion is coming from?

Anyway, he is only writing The Green Hornet, and that's always been the plan. They asked him to direct, and he turned it down stating that he didn't feel that he was up to it as a director (which is still lame, but for different reasons.)

As for Fletch, I have no info on that.

As for Passion: He said he was done w/ those flicks. He has also said on many occasions that Jay and Silent Bob were only brought into the films after Clerks because he is "A. Not very creative. and B. [He] thinks that Jason Mewes is very funny." Perhaps we now see that that had more truth to it than he would joke about.

ALSO, there is a rumor (and I'm not saying it's true, or that I believe it) that Mewes went into rehab for Heoin abuse, and that Smith promised him that they would do another flick if he successfully went through the program.

That's sounds more than a little fishy, but who knows.

Where are the superman and king kong vlogs? Thats cool. I loved clerks, with a passion, so I cant wait for the next one. I agree with most though, stick with the dialogue stuff cause he seems best at that. But his films are made to be some hollywood check out my cinematography and editing skills films, its made to be check out this funny story type of movie. I think he is great at it. I loved everything he made, EVEYRHTING. now go to bed. lol

He writes great dialogue; but should stick to writing and hire someone else to helm I think.

His work looks like Made for TV stuff (Visually); you would think after 6 Theatrically Released films they would start actually looking like films and not some crap television bullshit. Jersey Girl is the first film that actually looks like a real movie (Thank you Vilmos ) and not some indiependent or made for tv film (Dogma is just horribly shot).

The Jay and Silent Bob thing is funny (Mewes is a crack-up) but after 5 (and now 6 with Passion) films it's getting redundant (same joke over and over). I'm surprised they didn't make an appearance in Jersey Girl but do see Mewes listed as an actor in Green Hornet; are you kidding me? Please do not say it as 'Jay'?

I think for me it's hearing everyone 'Oooh and Awwwww' over Kevin Smith when I have yet to see him really 'Do anything'. I'm kind of waiting for something from him. Even RR (who I have felt similar about) is showing tremendous growth as a filmmaker since El Mariachi. (Once Upon a Time and Sin City for example).

Maybe he should 86 his usual cast & crew, get the **** out of Jersey for 5 minutes and shoot an EPIC.

LOL

That's supposedly why they made "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back."
