Clear text like seen here?

Hey. I'm just wondering what the method to achieve text like this is? There is a video of snow where the see-through text is. I'm trying to google how to do it, but I just don't know what it's called or what the fastest method to do this is.

White text on a black background. Then make this layer a mask for the snow layer.

I would suspect that this was done in AE as a mask turned into an alpha Channel placed over a black background.

Think of it like painting a street...

Street level is the background Video layer 1 (black)
Next video layer 2 is the stencil... the text in black and white - white being the letters
Next is the paint... layer 3 the paint you want to come thru the text. It is the snow.

Then...

Change the composite mode of video layer # to travel matte luma. THe # is what I forget. I think it's the paint but it might be the lettering.

I use AE for stuff like this, but you might try making a shape adding text to it and then color keying the text out put what ever texture you want under it. The only way I know for sure how to do it in final cut is to make a freeze frame then color key it and then lay it over your texture, but that is without movement. It is much easier in AE if you have it.

You can do that in Livetype. I've put various textures in my fonts before.
