Cleaning the heads on a deck...

I have a JVC SVHS/mini-dv deck. I was playing a tape of some footage I shot with my DVX when all of a sudden the deck stopped playing and flashed a "Insert Cleaning Tape" warning on the screen. I remember hearing that I shouldn't use the cleaning tapes on the DVX, but does that apply to a deck also. I assume so, but am asking cause I don't know. I have never switched brands of tapes. I always use panasonic. I'm not sure what is going on...

Probably dirty heads, the bane of small formats. Unless you have a location for a professional clean, get a cleaning tape and use it on the deck that was in use when you lost it.

Follow the instructions on the tape. If you do not have professional cleaning services on hand, the tape will have a simple 1-2-3 set of instructions to follow in the box.

The Panasonic cleaning tape I have says to run it for 10 seconds (or was that record to it for 10 seconds?). See, gotta read the manual!

record/play head is the same so you only need to press play.
