Cleaning Manfrotto 503 Heads

I don't know how, but it sounds like sand's gotten inside my Manfrotto 503 (non-HDV).

Does anyone have any experience taking apart one of these to clean? I've looked at sending it in to Manfrotto directly, but they're charging >$200.

Thanks,
Dan

I took my Manfrotto completely apart with my tool kit (places the parts logically so you know where everything goes when you put it back together) and cleaned it all with paper towls, q-tips, and orange cleaner. It was disgusting when I bought it used, but I got it looking brand new in under an hour.

Thanks for the reply, cassel-- took it apart, cleaned out the sand, and now it's good as new; no crunching sounds :D
