Cleaner Graphics

Is 72 dpi the correct setting for creating graphics in Adobe Photoshop CS2 to for Premiere? The results seem, well, less than crisp but bumping the resolution up isn't possible when originating the graphic in the NTSC DV 720X480 preset. Anyone have experience and thoughts on this? Large graphics also seem to have that stairstep effect on the edges.

Yes, 72dpi is the correct setting. I have never had a problem with this. Do you just have the quality in your preview window turned down?

dpi is a printing specification what matters is resolution. in order ot figure out resolution you need to figure the dpi calculated with the inches you are printing to. by default photoshop makes a dv ntsc canvas using 72dpi but it doesnt really havy any relevance ot how sharp something is going to look.

I'm looking at the results on a standard output monitor, a good Sony Trinitron, and I'm seeing stairsteps in the graphic, I suppose at every line of resolution. That's why I think it's "normal". but I don't know. Thanks for the input and help, though.

stairstepping might be caused by aliasing, the fact that there are lines that are at an angle but and the lack of resolution cause the effect. It needs to be smoothed out causeing it to look nto as sharp but wont give yuot eh stairsteping effect. try using an anti-ailiasing filter or if you are photoshopping make sure yuo have anti-ailiasing on when you are selecting or cutting things out.
