Class film with DVX100

I'm going to be shooting a short (7min) film for a class coming up with my new AG DVX100 (not 'A' model). I just wondering what the best 24p settings would be to use for a film look. (gamma, matrix, etc...) I will be editing on the FCP HD editing system. I will be using the letterbox to achieve the 16:9 look. I've heard talk about editing 24p Advanced as being diffcult to do and requires extra work. Is 24p normal easier to capture and edit? One more question about audio... any tricks or things I should know about recording with both channels? Thanks everyone for your time. I've learned alot from all of you.

Thanks,
Josh

if you dont want to "get into it", ust shoot 24p, not 24pA. pA adds an extra frame that makes it easier to remove the pulldown, but if your only showing in on a TV, its interlaced anyway and at least 24p interlaces properly (without the extra frame). Eventually you'll want to learn to use pA for 24p DVD's but for your little class projects, stick with 24p while you learn.

as for settings, newbies always think we sound like dicks, but you really need to decide this yourself. The truth is every film you do will require different settings, sometimes every scene in 1 movie. The real way of achieve any film look potential the DVX offers is 24p of coarse, know when to adjust the settings, and (heres the big one) YOUR lighting and composition. And those, again, are something you need to practice to learn, no one can tell you the right way to do it.

If you have any more specific questions, please ask them, but in the mean time go practice your lighting and pay attention when you watch movies :)

24p DVD?

24p DVD?

Can I put my final project on DVD without having to go through the 24pA and the pulldown stuff?

Am I correct in saying that if I shoot in the 24p Regular I capture it into Final Cut Pro HD with the 29fps setting then edit the timeline in 23fps and then output it in 29fps?

What are the setting and process I should use in Final Cut?

Thanks!

can you put it on dvd? Yes no problem, just like you would with anything.

If you shoot 24p, you capture 29.97 and edit on a 29.97 timeline. When you shot the footage it spread the 24 frames across 29.97 frames so you could see it on a TV.

When you decide to use 24pA, you'll capture at 29.97 with the remove pulldown check checked. then you will edit on a 23.whatever timeline.

if you wanna edit 24fps, do more research on 24pA. Otherwise shoot 24p, capture, cut, and put on dvd without worries :)
