there's probably tons of threads on this film, but wow...

wow...

I saw it last night and wow...
I absolutely loved it - it was slick, funny, and full of emotion
I'd have to say best film I've ever seen

Re: City of God

Yes... I agree... a wonderful film.. definetly on my top list of faves!

Re: City of God

I saw it a few weeks ago, very nice film, nice photography and real actors.

Re: City of God

Excellent, excellent film.

Most of it is 16mm, btw. Or at least large portions are.

Re: City of God

Roger Ebert called it "one of the greatest films you will ever see." Say what you want about Ebert, in this case he's right. It's astonishing. If you haven't seen it, you absolutely owe it to yourself to rent it immediately.

Re: City of God

I started another thread about "your fav movies" in cafe ala dvx and I listed it as #1

...I was recomended to another movie called "The Wounds" or "Rane" by someone who first got me turned onto 'City' and its kinda the same story of 'City', but its set in Serbia. I am Serbian (...well, my parents are, I was born here) so I have been trying to get ahold of it for a while now. Has anyone seen it, or know where I can find a copy of it?

Re: City of God

NickMilo, visit http://www.videouniverse.com and enter "wounds" for a title search. Looks like it's a $22.95 DVD, 1998, subtitled, directed by Srdjan Dragojevic. You're right, the plot sounds very similar.

I love City of God. I believe some of the actors have never had any real experience too, which is amazing if true.

Re: City of God

Thanks for the link Oz, an your right... most the actors were completely unexperienced and a lot were actual Rio gang members ...pretty cool...
