CITIZEN KANE... what crap!

you should try and figure a way to factor in critical reviews. then you'd have something like the efficiency rating of NFL quaterbacks.

as much as i despise critics, you have to give them their due and place. necessary evil.

In the case of gross divided by profit....

Blair Witch Project is the best movie ever!!!

Gross divided by profit?? No, no, no, Gross divided by marketing.

Blair witch cheated and got lots of marketing for free by cliaming to be "real." I would have still though it had a reasonable marketing budget though. I would have to look into the video market figures as well, they are very important.

Anyway, whatever the figure turns out, that is how the audiences voted with their wallets. Blame the audiences, not the holy formula

this is wrong from nearly every angle. aesthetically, logically, every which way. and who put you in charge of who gets to call themselves an artist? you cannot bottle art--apply a bunch do's and dont's cans and can'ts. art absolutely can exist in a vacuum or it can spring from the influences of anyone from orson welles to pauley shore--from gabriel garcia marquez to cheech marin.

Ditto brianluce you eloquently said what I meant, thank you.

I never enjoyed this film. The techniques that went into making it are spectacular if not perfect....but the story is just not interesting!

i love that opening sequence with a bunch of different shots of the house with one window lit. From all different angles, including a reflection in a pond. Through all these different shots he keeps the lit window in the exact same place in the frame until we cut to inside that window. Awesome. Also, I believe this was the first film to have the credits at the end?

I liked The Trial until you get to the end and Welles reads the credits aloud. Can you say pretentious? He was just trying to be Godard. That was like '61, right? New Wave was cool and Orson was on his way out.

The Stranger is one of my favorite Welles films. Eddie G. is the man!

I don't know about the credits of the Trial being pretentious considering Welles' most famous attribute was his voice and that he became a household name with War of the Worlds, on the RADIO... in 1938. It seemed natural to me. Could he have been influenced by Godard, maybe.

I think saying CK is crap is about as immature a comment I've seen posted on this forum. It ranks up there with the favorite director post where someone calls Lucas a loser.

damn kids need to grow up

well everybody's entitled to their own opinion, i love the movie for it's political standpoint on Hearst;stick it to the man with no regard to kissing up to sell the movie.HEARST led a campaign to stop the movie.the cinematography incredible and unheard of at that time, the acting also.you got to remember the times back then

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, but agree that calling Kane crap shows a tendency towards the inflammatory. However, I think that film or cinema or movies, or how ever you want to label it, is big enough to include all view points of view. A post on an internet thread does not change the value of the film and does not change the invidual worth of the person who made the post.
