CitiDISK

Email architecture is not at issue here. Issue is that Shining blew us off. Why, take the magazines I write for as an example, were promised an evaluation copy, have we not heard anything so far? That's the issue. Nobody cares about how email does or doesn't work. I'm a retired IT Engineer, I could talk that crap all night long if you wanted. But it has nothing to do with the issue. Shining did not reply to us as promised, period.

And for the record, when you get the message "mail deleted without reading", 99 out of 100 times, it really was deleted without being read. The reason dosn't matter. Customer service is customer service. The magazine I write for reviewed the FS-100 cause Focus got us a unit right away. So did TecTV, so did others. But we still have not seen hide nor hair of a CitiDisk, although we were told we would get a unit to review. THAT is the issue, not how email may or maynot actually work.

I'm more than happy to talk IT technology and software architecture, since that is in fact what I do for a living -- I've been a software engineer for over 20 years, this camera stuff is a hobby. I wrote code earlier this week that uses SMTP and MIME, so I have more than passing familiarity with the inner workings of e-mail.

As I wrote in my previous post, they may in fact have deleted the message without reading it, but that's not the point. My point is that you should not rely on e-mail for critical communications.

If you want to evaluate a Citidisk, don't send an e-mail and get miffed if you don't hear back. Get a phone number, call it, talk to the person in charge, introduce yourself and build a relationship, and make the arrangements for an evaluation.

I've been calling Shining for weeks and have yet to talk to anyone who knows anything. It seems that the tech support people are perpetually out of the office.

As I posted earlier, I have a CitiDISK and it works wonderfully--except for the 24p issue. If anyone knows a good workflow, please fill me in and I'll be able to give the product a shining review (ouch, minus 2 points for the painful pun).

But even if there was a viable workflow, the fact that I can't get anyone at Shining to call me back, and that their website is confusing about the MXF issue (when I bought the product, it didn't have the second clause that clarified that it didn't record in MXF format), makes me more than suspicious about the product.

I know Richard has been adamant in defending the product, but he also didn't return an email that I sent him regarding this issue.

For Benn as well as anyone else who has trouble with reaching me by email:

Please feel free to call me. My phone number is in my sig at the bottom of every post I make. For those who dont have Sigs turned on, the number is 800-631-0868 ext. 1043.

Thanks,
