Citidisk HDV slave to record button?

I'm shooting with 4 Canon XLH1's this weekend and we are also backing everything up on these little drives.
I need to be able to record from the camera record button as opposed to constantly having to press record on the drive. The cameras are covered otherwise I would use the drive record button.

Has anyone done this with the Canon's or any camera for that matter.

In the manual it says with a tape in the camera it will activate the drive when the record button is hit. But has anyone figured out a way to trick the camera into thinking there is a tape in the deck or something similar?
 
Citidisks are not idea, we have Two and they are scary units, always record to tape and HD simitainously. Dont not trust a citidisk
 
Yea I'm not a fan of them. I used them a couple months ago on the same job and they were a bit of a mess. We are backing up the show on hard drives and tape but this is currently our only way of iso'ing each camera : (
 
Just got done with this job where I had to use the Citidisks for the second time. And for the second time it was a complete hassle.

If anyone ever has any questions about these things PM me or email me. Their is a specific way you have to set them up after you format them.
