Citidisk HD Question: DVCPRO50 AND DV AT SAME TIME???

Hello All,

Does anybody know if it is possible to record DVCPRO 50 quality to the CitiDisk HD while simultaneously record DV to the tape on the HVX200? How to do it?

I need an answer quick!

Regards,

Paul Vicente

You can't do it with the Citidisk or any other solution. When the camera is in tape mode, it only outputs DV25 through the DV port.

Bummer!

Bummer!

Bummer!

When I bought the HVX I was told it could record both HD and SD at the same time, HD via P2/Firewire and SD via tape. I was thinking of buying a CitiDisk HD drive, but I confess that it is difficult for me to trust a hard drive with once-in-a-lifetime footage. Does anyone here have a recently released CitiDisk HD? I hear the newer ones with revised firmware are pretty decent. Comments anyone?

Yeah, you need to find a more knowledgeable dealer to do business with. That, or you misunderstood.

The camera can dub HD video recorded on P2 cards to MiniDV, but you can't record both at the same time.

Also, if you search for information on the Citidisk on the forum, you'll find very little positive feedback. If you need direct-to-disk/DTE recording in the field, I would go with the FS-100, or if you can be tethered to a computer, record to your NLE, DV Rack HD. or Scopebox.

Just to throw this in the mix, I am doing a review of the CitiDisk with the HVX200. They won't give me a unit to test with until NAB. The CitiDisk is supposed to, from my understanding, have some major upgrade by then. Like actually recording in the Panny MXF format (which it doesn't do at this time).

The rep on the phone did quote some things that he claimed Citidisk had over the FS-100, but I know the FS-100 too well. Everything I heard was word play marketing hype.

Point is, if you are considering a CitiDisk, at this moment, it is only a partially functioning device, wait until NAB.

I had a loaner CitiDisk HD 100 GB model for a few weeks, and decided against buying it until it got much better. You can read my experience with it at epinions.com. Go there and search on/for" Citidisk HD". It's a bit long, and written in a story-like manner rather than a review, but as helpful as the CitiDisk could be, I highlight the problems I had with it. Hope it helps, or at least points out things/weaknesses you should consider before buying. Good luck.

Ben,

I too have been in touch with the CitiDisk people regarding a review and will speaking with them at NAB. Perhaps we will coincide and give them the old double-team. Nonetheless, it is a product of which I remain skeptical. I would like to be proven wrong since it does present a much lower cost alternative tan CinePorter or FS-100. But the main criterion for a pro is "does it work?"
