Circular or Linear filter?

I would first like to say that I have spent the last 30 minutes searching for a straight answer without any luck, so here goes.

I will be shooting a demo for a fishing show in the next week or so and would like to know if I need a circular or a linear filter and why? My second question is, should I put it over my UV filter or remove the UV filter first?

Thanks in advance...

Get a mc or hmc (coatings) linear polarizer if you want the recommended polarizer for video. Lose the UV filter, it's extra glass serving no purpose other then to degrade the image once you have another filter over the lens.

The reason you haven't got a straight answer is because in real-world use you won't see much difference in circular vs. linear, but there are plenty of people giving specific reasons why you should get linear.

I've bought two different polarizers (both expensive)... the first being linear and the second being circular, and I never noticed a difference. In both cases the polarizing effect depends on the angle of incidence and you turning the polarizer to the right spot. Either way there will be times when the polarizer doesn't appear to do much... and other times that it will be magic.

One thing about my circular... that I can't remember if I've had happen on the linear... is at sunset, when there are water particles in the sky (high humidity, etc) I have seen some extra coloration in the sky... like purples and other shades that aren't really there, but have added to the shot... so? There you go... if you want certainty with the polarizer, get a linear, otherwise I say it's a toss-up.

The best polarizer is a B+W with the k glass.
